EMAIL FROM LIZ - TUESDAY, 15 JUNE 2010

"Hi Guys, I just want to say a massive thank you to all my buddies at Monklands Ramblers for all your support over the last 6 months - both through fundraising and moral support. It is because of your wonderful support that I achieved one of my dreams - to reach the top of Kilimanjaro!! I missed the sign by 100 metres due to a bad case of AMS causing cerebral endeima. In other words, I went even more gaga than I am normally! The doc doped me up with steroids and Diamox and I got back to base camp safely with a little support from the wonderful porters and guides who accompanied us on our adventure. The total figure raised by our trek will take a few weeks to confirm but it could be as much as £90,000 for St Andrew's Hospice. That is just amazing! After all, that was the reason we put ourselves through all the pain, flatulance and dirty underwear!! (All will be explained in due course!) Over the next few weeks, I hope to write up my adventure with loads of photos to illustrate the incredible journey we took. When done, I hope Jim will post it on the website so you can all see it. In finishing, I would just like to clarify a little detail which I only found out when we got to Kilimanjaro. Regarding the celebrity climb last year, they took 12 days to summit, had over 400 support team, walked less than 4 hours a day, had oxygen blown into their tents every night and not all of them made it to the summit!!! Wish I had known that before I started!!!! Thanks again guys. There will be a night out in the next few weeks which I hope you can all make to help me celebrate my success and also help me catch up on 4 months of not drinking!!! Lots of love, Liz."
